It is always great to hear from our former St. Mary's High School Award recipients. Kevin Reichardt was always so proud to represent St. Mary's School both in academics and in sports. These award winning students represent St. Mary's as well. They exemplify Kevin and help us to "Make Kevin's Spirit Live On" by excelling in the classroom, surpassing expectations on the playing field and leading others with focused initiative. We are proud that they now too represent The Kevin E. Reichardt Foundation and will keep their names on our plaque in the front of St. Mary's High School. We will always remember them and look forward to continued updates throughout their academic and professional careers.

Each year The Kevin E. Reichardt Foundation awards two (2), five hundred dollar scholarships to one female student and one male student entering their junior or senior year at St. Mary's High School. It is a one time award, payable to St. Mary's High School Admissions.

The student must carry a minimum Grade Point Average of 3.3. Honors and advance placement courses are given additional consideration. The candidate must play at least two sports and display outstanding leadership qualities and character. They must meet the academic and athletic standards established by Kevin when he was a student at St. Mary's High School.

Recipients are:

Marie Oben

Marie, a junior at St. Mary’s, is a member of the Varsity Soccer and Softball teams, as well as being Captain of the Junior Varsity Basketball team. Marie has also excelled academically, and is ranked third in her class. Despite her rigorous academic and athletic schedule, Marie still finds the time to volunteer at C.T. Reed Elementary School tutoring phys-ically and mentally handicapped children.

Conor Devlin

Conor, a senior at St. Mary’s, is a member of the Varsity Football and Lacrosse teams. In addition to his athletic pursuits, Conor is a solid student who also finds time to participate in school dramatic productions and act as a tour guide to prospective students.

Jenna Hubbard

Jenna Hubbard, the daughter of Janice and Edward Hubbard, is the first sophomore at St. Mary’s to receive this award. She is the Sophomore Class Vice-President and plays both Varsity Lacrosse and Varsity Field Hockey. Jenna has already earned the respect of her teachers, classmates, coaches and teammates and comes highly recommended for her contagious enthusiasm and commitment to success in school, on the playing fields, and in volunteer activities outside the school.

Jenna’s winning essay focused on sportsmanship at St. Mary’s High School and the relationships built within a school’s team, which reminded the scholarship committee of Kevin’s unique school spirit.

Nicholas Bonacci

Nicholas Bonacci, son of Joanne and Steve Bonacci, is a highly motivated student athlete. He is a member of the National Honor Society, St. Mary’s Varsity Lacrosse team and has played Varsity Soccer since his freshman year. Nicholas is a leader in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and in many outside volunteer activities as well. Nicholas’ winning essay was written about his older brother’s influence on his life and his respect for family ties extremely impressed the scholarship committee.

Andrea Smith , 2001 Award Recipient -

This year’s female recipient, Andrea Smith, is a member of the National Honor Society and plays both Varsity Lacrosse and Varsity Field Hockey. She is an active member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and volunteers with the Special Olympics, the Sunrise Assisted Living and Operation Santa Charity. Andrea ranks top in her class and scores high on her essay about her sister Lana (we wondered how we had missed giving Lana a college scholarship). The respect and admiration for her older sister is obvious. Andrea’s winning essay focused on making her own unique mark on the world, reminding the scholarship committee of Kevin’s unique spirit.

She attended the Leadership Conference at St. John's College, was a counselor at the Mayo Camp for handicapped children, and helped with the Special Olympics at the Naval Academy. Allison's essay focused on making something positive in her life from a negative event; an attitude that resembled Kevin's spirit of accomplishment.

Thomas is also a member of the National Honor Society at St. Mary's High School and plays both Varsity Lacrosse and Varsity Football. His appreciation and respect for people of all ages won him the St. Mary's High School award.

Darren Kramer, 1999 Award Recipient -

Darren is a conscientious, cooperative and self-motivated student. One of his teachers wrote to us about Darren's depth of research, his high quality of written work and his originality of presentation. Kevin took his studies seriously too but was sure to make time for sports. Darren takes sports seriously as well, playing Varsity lacrosse and Varsity basketball. He always supports his teammates and encourages them in a positive way. Darren showed sincere compassion through 75 hours of service, working with special education children. He also worked with a peer group tutoring program at St. Mary's High School in the mornings. Helping others earned Darren Kramer our 1999 St. Mary's High School Award.

Kristen Gaudreau, 1999 Award Recipient -

Kristen carried a 4.28 Grade Point Average as an honor role student, Parvis Scholar and a Silver Medal Winner of the National Latin Exam. In her spare time Kristen played Varsity lacrosse, Varsity field hockey, and is a Varsity swim team member. She also served as a member of the Council on Student Affairs.

A statement written in Kristen's recommendation letter tells of a characteristic often remembered about Kevin, "Kristen always helps out with the younger players." Reaching out to others can make a difference in someone's life, particularly those younger than ourselves. The Kevin E. Reichardt Foundation is proud to have Kristen Gaudreau as our 1999 St. Mary's High School Award Recipient.
